1. They have no kneecaps
This one is a chuckle! Yes, you heard me right! Babies are in fact born without any kneecaps – they have a structure made of cartilage that resembles a kneecap, but they don’t fully develop until around 6 months of age.
3. Newborn babies have no tears
Theoretically speaking, your newborn baby doesn’t cry, they simply scream! Why because they have no tears! Newborn babies are unable to produce tears until around three weeks of age – this is because their tear ducts are not fully developed at birth. They will always produce moisture to keep the eyes well lubricated and healthy, but there will be no proper tears shed at least for the first 3-4 weeks. Phew!
4. Babies are born with 300 bones
Newborn babies are born with 300 bones which is almost 50% more bones than adults. How is this possible? Well, a number of these bones will fuse together during the first several years of life which will reduce the number of bones to around 206.
5. Most babies have a birthmarks
While most people consider a birthmark to be an abnormality, they are actually most people consider a birthmark an abnormality, but they’re not. In fact, birthmarks are very common and about 80% of babies are born with some sort of birthmark. Most birthmarks are caused by tiny blood vessels under the skin becoming dilated during labor and usually disappear after a few years.
6. Babies have accents
Believe it or not, babies have accents. How wild is this? From the moment they’re born, babies are, in their own way, communicating in the language of their families: Even before they have words, they have accents. Babies pick up the accent of their mothers during the third trimester of pregnancy and this accent is even reflected in how a baby cries after birth.
7. Babies’ hair falls out
Was your baby born with nice thick locks? Don’t get too attached because newborns tend to lose the hair they are born with during the first few weeks of birth. The hair will gradually grow back over the first year, but it may not be the same as before.
8. Genuine smile
Your baby will not give you a genuine smile until around 6 to 8 weeks after birth.
9. Newborns don’t have kneecaps.
Newborn babies do not have kneecaps. How funny is that? Babies can do without kneecaps make do without. In fact, a baby’s kneecap, also known as the patella, doesn’t develop into a hard bone until the little one enters preschool (between the ages of three and five).
10. Their first poop doesn’t stink.
Turns out babies are all that and a bag of chips because their first ish literally doesn’t stibk. Baby’s first poop called meconium is made up of mucus, fluid from the womb, and anything else they digested while inside mom and because this poop doesn’t have gut bacteria resulting in odorless poop.
